The Cryolophosaurus is the oldest known tetanurin and the only specimen from the Early Jurassic Period .

It was one of the first feathered predatory dinosaurs to evolve into a large body size.

The name is derived from the Greek words Kairos , Kairos meaning cold, lopos meaning Crest , and savros which meant lizard.

It existed about 188 to 194,000,000 years ago .

The Cryolophosaurus became extinct about 65,000,000 years ago towards the end of the Cretaceous period .

Fossils were found on Mount Kirkpatrick in the Beardmore Glacier region of the Transantarctic Mountains , Antarctica .

It was the 2nd dinosaur and the third theropod discovered in Antarctica .
