All the key opposition figures from the period are in prison or have fled abroad.

Opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya believes Lukashenko and his allies are afraid of an uprising.

She believes the trauma of 2020 is still alive and he has to eliminate any possibility of uprising.

But she admits there's little sign of that in the short-term in Belarus .

"The democratic world can't make concessions to Putin ," she argues.
