Trump signed an order on Monday asking the Treasury secretary to “investigate whether any foreign country subjects US . citizens or corporations to discriminatory or extraterritorial taxes” Canada ’s controversial digital services tax ( DST ) imposed last year .
Canadian investment in the U.S. accounts for about 12 per cent of all foreign investment, with more than 5,500 Canadian -owned businesses operating in there, supporting almost 900,000 jobs.
Canadian Chamber of Commerce has long warned that the DST is “a severe trade irritant that could lead to retaliatory measures”.
