A falcon shrine from the late Roman period was unearthed by archaeologists during the excavation of a religious complex at the ancient seaport of Berenike in Egypt ’s Eastern desert.

The shrine contained the inscription that read, "It is improper to boil a head in here" which barred visitors from boiling the heads of the animals inside the temple.

An iron harpoon that was about 13 inches in length was also found near the pedestal of falcons.

735 animal remains were also unearthed which contained skeletal fragments of various fish, birds, and mammals.
