Misrepresented ballot template spurs false Philippine election claims
74% Informative
A picture of a sample ballot labelled " Beijing PE, China " repeatedly surfaced in posts falsely claimed it was proof China was interfering with the vote.
Manila and Beijing are locked in a territorial dispute over the South China Sea but the picture shows an official ballot template for overseas Filipinos voting in the Philippine Embassy in Beijing .
The posts drew comments that further alleged the label was evidence China was involved in the elections.
A spokesman for Comelec said " Be Beijing PE " refers to the polling station for overseas Filipino voters.
