The INSANE plane built to fight fires - CL 415

The Canada CL 415 is an enhanced version of the earlier Canadair CL 215 which was introduced in the late 1960s .

It was one of the first aircraft built with the sole purpose of fighting fires from the air.

Over its operational history, 125 CL 2 Fifteens were built and played a critical role in wildfire suppression in Europe , North America and beyond.

The CL 4:15 has become a leading aircraft in aerial firefighting not only in Canada but also around the world.

The aircraft has a maximum take off weight of 19,000 kilograms and a high speed of 400 kilometers per hour .

The CL 415 can reach the site of a wildfire within minutes , making it possible to begin suppression efforts much sooner than relying on ground crews alone.

Aircraft's amphibious capabilities make it versatile enough to operate from lakes, rivers or coastal areas.

The CL 415 isn't the only nor the largest firefighter in the skies.

Air tankers are deployed as well to help the firefighting efforts with their giant 45,000 litre tanks.

The size and intensity of some wildfires can exceed the capabilities of even the CL 415 , requiring additional ground support or multiple aircraft.
