AHS made $28-million prepayment for imported drugs two weeks after telling hospitals not to use them

Alberta Health Services issued a $28 million prepayment to Edmonton importer MHCare for a pharmaceutical order that included Parol brand acetaminophen just over two weeks after hospitals were ordered to stop using it.

On July 10, 2023 , AHS issued a bulletin to hospitals instructing them to cease using Parol .

The payment is at odds with prior comments Premier Danielle Smith made to the Canadian Press in December that the entire $70 million was paid upfront.
