'Heartbreaking': USAID staffers clear out desks after DOGE layoffs

USAID staffers say they were laid off or placed on leave after Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency laid them off.
"The more I talk about it, the more I want to cry," one worker says.
Hundreds of people gathered outside to cheer on USAID workers as they cleared out their offices.
Samantha Power , the USAID administrator under former President Joe Biden , spoke with workers Thursday morning .
USAID workers said they want the public to be proud of the work they did.
"We love the American people. We're here to serve. That's what bureaucrats are," one worker said.
"This fight is not done yet," USAID worker said. "Only Congress can shut down USAID -- it's a government agency".
