Microsoft is shutting down Skype and replacing it with the free version of Microsoft Teams for consumers.

Existing Skype users will have around 60 days to decide whether they want to switch to Microsoft Teams or migrate to Teams.

Microsoft is also phasing out support for calling domestic or international numbers from Skype .

Skype will be retired on May 5th , and existing users will need to export their data.

Skype retirement won't result in job cuts, at least not immediately.

Microsoft Teams and Skype have evolved to a common team, Teper says.

“There won’t be layoffs, those folks are going to be working on making things better,” he says.
