Measles outbreak hits household in remote northern Alberta community

An adult and five children are being quarantined in a remote northern Alberta Indigenous community after measles sent them to hospital.

Lab tests Sunday confirmed the outbreak, all in one household.

The Little Red River Cree Nation is working to determine who among its 8,000 members has yet to be immunized.

The biggest concern is among pregnant women, babies under six months , and those with compromised immune systems.

One or two doses of the vaccine may be recommended if you are a health care worker, student at a post-secondary institution or are travelling outside of Canada .

The vaccine is available in Canada only if you have one or two cases of measles in the U.S ..
