Until now, some Amazon Echo devices had the option to process commands locally 'on-device' But from March 28 , all Alexa -powered Echo smart speakers will send recordings to the cloud.

Amazon said it will 'support the expanded capabilities of Alexa with generative AI ', which requires the 'processing power of Amazon 's secure cloud' The move has gone down badly with many experts, with one saying an Amazon Echo device is 'now a direct line to HQ'.

Starting on March 28th , your voice recordings will be sent to and processed in the cloud, and they will be deleted after Alexa processes your requests.

If your settings are updated to 'Don't save recordings', voice ID will not work and you will not be able to created a voice ID for individual users to access more personalized features.
