Family in limbo after Trump's cuts to Education civil rights team

69% Informative
The Office of Civil Rights was one of the hardest hit divisions in the Trump administration's first round of firings.
The Department of Education has little oversight over the day to day operations of most schools in the US , but it plays a key role in enforcing federal education guidelines and policies.
On Thursday , President Donald Trump signed an executive order to "facilitate the closure" of the department.
Staffers who remained in their jobs said the Department of Education's new leadership had provided little to no guidance about how thousands of pending cases would be reassigned.
They also worried that cases involving racial minorities, or people with disabilities, will not receive the appropriate attention.
The office received a record 22,687 complaints in fiscal year 2024 .
