B.C. Premier David Eby took no responsibility for acting at the last possible minute.

Eby blamed the urgency to the “threats coming out of the Trump White House ” and the timing to Ottawa ’s belated scrapping of its own, overarching carbon tax.

The federal government reduced its carbon tax to zero on March 15 .

The debate on the bill was expected to continue into the night Monday .

The New Democrats have a bare 47 -46 majority in the legislature.

In the event of a tie vote, they assume that Speaker Raj Chouhan would break it in support of the government.

Plus, as Eby also noted, it would be “bizarre” if Conservatives voted against the bill and thus let the carbon tax live another day.
