Did Calgary's sewage spill harm fish and affect Bow River health? Probably not, but time will tell

Calgary 's sewage leak into the Bow River caused high E. coli levels in the river.
The City of Calgary confirmed last Friday that potentially hundreds of millions of litres of untreated sewage seeped into the river between March 19 and 28 .
Alberta Health Services has not issued a health advisory regarding the incident.

Winter is generally a slower growth period for algae, so winter is not necessarily seeing the amount of algal growth.
Less oxygen is bad news for fish, but because it's a little bit colder, it's unlikely to see that, Barrett said.
The sewage spill did introduce a lot of nitrogen into the Bow, as bacteria decompose organic matter, he said.
