The number of people employed in forestry has been cut in half since 2000 .

Premier David Eby is concerned U.S. President Donald Trump ’s current investigation into Canadian timber exports could lead to large tariffs being placed on top of the 14 per cent duties already charged on softwood lumber.

Eby says one in 10 sticks of lumber used in the States comes from British Columbia .

Eby also touted the province’s $700 million manufacturing jobs fund that works build forestry capital projects and which he said has created 3,500 jobs in the sector.

Haakstad said there is still plenty of work to be done to get the sector back on its feet.
