Senate votes 51-48 to approve a budget framework for a tax bill.

The eventual bill is expected to include billions of dollars in spending cuts and to add trillions of dollars to the deficit.

“This tax increase is going to hit American families — $2.6 trillion of it is going to hit families making less than $400,000 a year,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune ( R-South Dakota ) said Friday night on the Senate floor.
