Lunar Gateway’s skeleton is complete—its next stop may be Trump’s chopping block

The Lunar Gateway program has lingered around the periphery of NASA 's human exploration program since the Obama administration.
It will be a mini-space station in orbit around the Moon , with provisions to support astronauts for missions lasting up to 90 days when complete.
It would help NASA gain experience sustaining human crews 1,000 times farther from Earth than the International Space Station .
NASA 's Lunar Gateway program is behind schedule and over budget.
The HALO module has arrived in Arizona from Italy and is only partially complete.
The PPE and HALO modules will launch together on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket in 2027 .
NASA currently projects it will cost the government about $5.3 billion to build, launch, and activate the modules.
PPE 's electrical propulsion system is being delivered.
The thrusters associated with that system will go through acceptance testing at the Glenn Research Center .
PPE will have three xenon-fueled 12-kilowatt Hall thrusters produced by Aerojet Rocketdyne .
