City ordered to pay over $300,000 to former River Run residents in legal fee compensation

A provincial inquiry officer has ordered the City of Calgary to reimburse residents of the expropriated River Run condos in Eau Claire nearly $311,000 .
The order came April 9 in a 23 -page ruling that determined the city ought to pay the former River Run property owners $ 310,935.04 .
The amount covers 85 per cent of legal fees the former homeowners incurred for carrying out the inquiry process.
The acquisition of the property was to accommodate a station for the Green Line LRT project.
Ward 7’s Terry Wong said councillors don’t typically weigh in on legal proceedings.
Wong noted in the case of River Run , “there's a clear delineation” of costs and obligations in terms of judgment on expropriation and value compensation.
“This is the place they lived for a good number of years and raised their family,” Wong said. “Having said that, there's a price of progress and that price is one we tried to resolve with them in a way that is as close to satisfactory as possible.
