On Tuesday , President Donald Trump signed an executive order laying out steps to lower drug prices.

While some of the proposals are sound, others are unlikely to move the needle.

Trump and GOP lawmakers are preparing to, or already have, enacted other measures that could very well raise drug prices for many Americans .

And the administration has begun to lay the groundwork needed to impose tariffs on drugs imported into the U.S , which could lead to higher costs and drug shortages, particularly for generic drugs. Nothing about Trump ’s past or recent track record suggests that prescription drugs in America are about to get significantly cheaper. And if we’re truly unlucky, some drugs could become even more expensive soon enough..
