Amherstburg approached Essex County council about establishing a regional police force but there was little interest.

The Town of Essex examined its policing services with the OPP at an April 7 council meeting.

The OPP provides policing to five of Essex County’s seven municipalities and polices provincial highways, waterways and parks.

LaSalle is “not going to budge” from its own police force despite paying double what Essex pays.

Essex Coun. Katie McGuire-Blais said she has had complaints from residents over the lack of visibility of OPP officers.

OPP visibility has increased following a recruitment drive following depleted resources after the COVID-19 pandemic.
