These are the conclusions from a research team led by the Netherlands Institute of Ecology ( NIOO -KNAW). Surprisingly, it applies to both conventional and organic farming.

Organic carbon present in the soil proved to be the best predictor of soil multifunctionality.

'I find it really promising that in both conventional and organic farms you can strengthen the functioning of the soil by working it less intensively,' says Sophie Q. van Rijssel , Guusje J. Koorneef , G. F. ( Ciska) Veen.
