Funeral director threw out thousands of pets' bodies and gave owners different ashes, Pennsylvania prosecutors say

Patrick Vereb , 70 , is accused of stealing more than $650,000 from over 6,500 customers who paid for pet burial and cremation services between 2021 and 2024 .
Investigators say he kept the pets' bodies in garbage bags on top of freezers and gave owners the ashes of other animals.
The attorney general's office says it has identified victims from Allegheny , Armstrong , Washington and Westmoreland counties.
