Johnny Jones won big with Everett's basketball programs, but his legacy runs much deeper

Johnny Lee Jones is the only high school basketball coach in Michigan ever to win state titles with the boys and girls teams at the same school while coaching both teams.
For those who just knew of him, he will be remembered for coaching both the Lansing Everett boys AND girls basketball teams to state championships in the early 2000s .
He was a father figure, a teacher of life, a comedian with one -liners, the friend and coach who would give it to you straight.
The Everett High School boys and girls basketball coach won state titles at the same school.
Johnny Jones was famous for his press defense, jump stops, press defense and teaching life lessons.
Jones coached the Everett boys for 32 years , 13 with the girls.
No other high school coaches have done it while running both programs at same schools.
Jones was a father figure for a lot of players.
A Johnny Jones memorial ceremony will be held from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday , May 10 , at the Everett High School gymnasium.
