After sudden departure, Mark Neufeld lauded, roasted for his time as Calgary's police chief

58% Informative
Mark Neufeld abruptly resigned Friday after serving as Calgary police chief since 2019 .
He had two years remaining on his contract and gave no reason for his departure.
Some have questioned the timing of his exit, particularly since it comes just six weeks before the start of the G7 gathering at Kananaskis .
Neufeld backed down on a demand in 2022 that its officers refrain from wearing the so-called thin blue line patch on their uniforms due to supposedly racist connotations.
The CPS in 2023 allowed officers to wear a thin blue blue line pin it said was an authorized image with a different meaning.
“He wimped out on that — it showed he wouldn’t stand up to the union ( Calgary Police Association ),” said defence lawyer.
