The Supreme Court will hear arguments in Trump v. CASA , a group of cases on President Donald Trump ’s challenge to birthright citizenship.

Lower courts have so far blocked the executive order from taking effect anywhere in the United States .

A possible outcome of the court case is babies born to immigrant mothers at the same time in the same American hospital would have different status.

Judges have issued 39 such orders against the administration so far, Justice Department says.

New Jersey attorney general says this is not the right case to deal with the issue because Trump is offering a “warped reading” of the 14th Amendment, he says.

At least two justices have said they believe individual judges lack the power to issue nationwide injunctions.
