What is a Chanticleer? The name comes from a rooster character in a Middle Age fable that was widely popularized in " The Canterbury Tales " Coastal Carolina's sports teams have been dubbed the Trojans since the 1960s .
The name was adopted to make it more in-line with South Carolina's " Gamecocks " Also known as USC Coastal Carolina College changed its mascot to the Chanticles.
