Classical music during the West Coast summer is quite a different proposition to our regular season .
Early Music Vancouver’s biggest summertime event is its annual festival, which runs July 24 through Aug. 8 .
The musicians of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra traditionally get August off, with many leaving town to participate in various far-off festivals and special programs.
And the repertoire is simply astonishing: Tenor Charles Daniels , who has often performed for Early Music Vancouver , will be featured in Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations , settings of texts by Arthur Rimbaud , followed by the glorious Concerto for Double String Orchestra by Britten ’s contemporary Michael Tippett .
