High school basketball goaltending addressed in recent national rules changes

The National Federation of State High School Associations approved a series of rule changes to the basketball rulebook for the 2025 -26 school year.
Most notably, a rule has been added to indicate that a ball is considered to be on its downward flight once it contacts the backboard.
Basket interference was also clarified by the NFHS , clarifiying and expanding the definition to include additional actions that unfairly affect the ball while it is in a scoring position.
