Here's my review of Cosmic Encounter — an all-time great

46% Informative
Cosmic Encounter is a veteran of the space board gaming genre.
Three to five players each take control of an alien race, chosen from a roster of 51 different species.
Each race has their own special rule that breaks the game wildly in some specific way, giving them a huge advantage.
The main rulebook is very simple to follow along with, explaining set-up quickly.
Cosmic Encounter hits that sweet spot of being easy to learn and hard to master.
The alien abilities are wild and many seem horribly broken in isolation.
There are 51 of these epic abilities, meaning no two games will feel the same.
Cosmic Encounter is easy to pick up and play, meaning you can introduce new players quickly.
Cosmic Encounter is a true free-for-all and, for my money, one of the best board games ever made.
Twilight Imperium is a game of Risk mixed with a meeting of the UN security council.
