A baby bonus won’t solve our fertility crisis, marriage will - Washington Examiner

President Donald Trump acknowledged the problem Tuesday , saying he wants to reverse the trend in a welcome change from the last administration.

But a $ 5,000 "baby bonus" for every mother after she gives birth won’t make fertility great again, says Julian Zelizer .

Zelizer: The decline in overall birth rates is actually being driven by women between the ages of 18 and 33 .

He says marriage penalties would be a huge step toward helping young people get married, and so would raising male wages.
